Signs of the Times is a series of images that began in the late 1970's during my trips to New York City. I was fascinated by the desperation of people to get their message out - to be noticed. The posters and graffiti were everywhere - layer upon layer - peeling off the walls. It took until 1987 to find the format and process that would add to the dimension and space I wanted, to go beyond what had been done in the past with this subject. The images are 40x60 inches and painted with oils. Areas have been selectively deleted or enhanced, adding to the layering and visual space.
