Transit Series was done when I returned from California in 1987. I had been riding the subway in Boston for nine years and was always amazed at how close people coulde be to each other and not even make eye contact. I photographed "blindly", without looking through the lens of my automatic camera. I then printed the series 40x60 inches and painted them with oil paint. The painting technique I had developed in the "Life's A Beach" series allowed me to isolate people and their expressions as well as add the colors I felt were right for the images. Some of these images are still available.
